"A Remotely Reconfigurable IoT System using Wiki Software,"
Information Engineering Express, Vol 5, No 2, pp.18-35 (2019).
- abstract: Herein, an Internet of Things (IoT) system with remotely reconfigurable gateways and wireless sensor network (WSN) nodes is presented and its applications are discussed. This IoT system consists of wiki pages, bots, (defined as remotely controlled devices), and remotely reconfigurable WSN Nodes. Each bot can be used as the gateway of the WSN if the bot was connected with it. The bots/gateways and WSN nodes of the IoT system are controlled by scripts written on wiki pages that are read by the bot/gateways, which then forward the commands contained in the scripts to the WSN nodes. Each WSN node then executes the commands, obtains the resulting sensor values, and then returns those values to the bot/gateways. The bot/gateways relay the values and write them onto the wiki page. Each bot and WSN node is flexible and reconfigurable because its behavior can be changed by the script commands written onto the wiki page. Using this IoT system, we created a measurement system to evaluate activity levels of group work in a classroom. After developing the measurement system, we found it was possible to adjust the sampling rate for obtaining sensor values simply by rewriting the script on the wiki page without directly manipulating the WSN.

Automating a Part of the Assessment of a University using Excel,
SIGUCCS '19 Proceedings of the 2019 ACM on SIGUCCS Annual Conference, pp. -, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Nov.,2019.
- Abstract: A process of establishing an assessment policy for a university and automating a part of the assessment is discussed. Excel was the tool used to carry out the automation. The form the assessment policy should take was discussed for three years, and was partially implemented in two months. We collected grades of all students of all classes from our university, using our academic affairs system. After the grade data were downloaded from the academic affairs system, we produced radar charts for each student, for each department, and for the university as a whole. Then, by clicking some buttons in the Excel book, the data were partitioned into the grade lists of all departments.

- Abstract: This paper discusses a casual, big and wide digital signage system and its automatic operation system. The image of the signage is partitioned into several parts of the image and projected to the screen using several projectors. The screen is realized by windows of a building which are putted “Shoji”, paper screens, on. The automatic operation system is used for turning on and off the several projectors at times of previously set. The system also can turn on and off all of the projectors forcibly by the administrator. The setting and operations can be performed from remote places. So, it is possible to perform such operations at night when no one in the building, flexibly.

"Bot Computing using the Power of Wiki Collaboration,"
10th International Conference on E-Service and Knowledge Management (ESKM 2019), July 7 - 12, Toyama Japan.
- Abstract: Bot computing using the power of Wiki collaboration and an experimental implementation of the bot running environment are discussed. While botnets are usually created for malicious purposes, the bot computing in this study aims to use bots for beneficial purposes. The massively parallel and persistence features of a botnet can enhance its computing power and high availability for beneficial computing. Bot computing can also enhance people’s collaboration by introducing dynamic Web pages to previously static Wiki networks. Parallel dynamic programming for solving a minimal path problem is shown as an example. Resources such as the number of bots and the number of web pages were proportional to the number of nodes, and the time to solve the minimal path problem was proportional to the number of arcs of the minimal path.

"A Botnet Detecting Infrastructure Using a Beneficial Botnet,"
SIGUCCS '18 Proceedings of the 2018 ACM on SIGUCCS Annual Conference, pp. 35-42, Orland, Florida, USA, Oct.,2018.
- Abstract: A beneficial botnet, which tries to cope with technology of malicious botnets such as peer to peer (P2P) networking and Domain Generation Algorithm (DGA), is discussed. In order to cope with such botnets’ technology, we are developing a beneficial botnet as an anti-bot measure, using our previous beneficial bot. The beneficial botnet is a group of beneficial bots. The P2P communication of malicious botnet is hard to detect by a single Intrusion Detection System (IDS). Our beneficial botnet has the ability to detect P2P communication, using collaboration of our beneficial bots. The beneficial bot could detect communication of the pseudo botnet which mimics malicious botnet communication. Our beneficial botnet may also detect communication using DGA. Furthermore, our beneficial botnet has ability to cope with new technology of new botnets, because our beneficial botnet has the ability to evolve, as same as malicious botnets.

"Monitoring Servers, With a Little Help from my Bots",
SIGUCCS '17 Proceedings of the 2017 ACM on SIGUCCS Annual Conference, pp. 173-180, Seattle, Washington, USA, Oct.,2017.
- Abstract:
This paper discusses a method of employing bots instead of people to monitor servers or server rooms. A bot is a remote controlled computer or a remote controlled program. A bot is usually a malicious program which is an element of a botnet. A botnet is used for doing malicious things such as spreading spam mails or doing DDoS Attacks. We have made bots and we are using bots for doing beneficial things such as monitoring a server instead of doing malicious things. We are monitoring a web server in our campus using a bot. This bot is tweeting whether the server is running or not periodically on the twitter. We are also monitoring a server room in our campus using another bot. This bot shows managers transition of the room temperature and others.

- Abstract: A Wearable LED matrix sign system which shows a tweet of Twitter is discussed. The wearable LED matrix sign of the system is a mobile sign and it can be located any place any time, if a person wears the sign and goes there at the time. The wearable LED matrix sign can be controlled from a remote place by a manager because its contents can be modified using Twitter. The manager also can know where is the LED matrix sign using the GPS function of the LED matrix sign or calling the person who wears the sign. The LED matrix sign system can be used for special events such as conferences on a campus. It also can be used for emergency evacuation.

"Optimizing Data Partitioning at Broadcasting the Data on Balanced N-ary Tree Formed P2P Systems",
6th International Conference on E-Service and Knowledge Management (ESKM 2015), Okayama, Japan.,2015
- Abstract: A theoretical equation for optimizing the number of data partitioning at broadcasting the data on a balanced N-ary Tree formed peer to peer (P2P) systems is shown. The optimum partitioning number is proportional to the square root of the data size and the height of the tree. It is inversely proportional to the square root of the bandwidth of the network. If the latency between nodes becomes larger, the optimum partitioning number becomes smaller. If the number of branches of the tree becomes larger, the optimum partitioning number becomes larger. The equation was applied to a computer assisted teaching system. The computer assisted teaching system has been used for several real classes of a university.

Applied Computing and Information Technology,Studies in Computational Intelligence, Springer, Vol.553, pp.121-136, 2014.
- Abstract: Experimental implementation of a M2M system, which is controlled by a wiki network, is discussed. This M2M system consists of mobile terminals at remote places and wiki servers on the Internet. A mobile terminal of the system consists of an Android terminal and it may have an Arduino board with sensors and actuators. The mobile terminal can read data from not only the sensors in the Arduino board but also wiki pages of the wiki servers. The mobile terminal can control the actuators of the Arduino board or can write sensor data to a wiki page. The mobile terminal performs such reading writing and controlling by reading and executing commands on a wiki page, and by reading and running a program on the wiki page, periodically. In order to run the program, the mobile terminal equipped with a data processor. After placing mobile terminals at remote places, the group of users of this system can control the M2M system by writing and updating such commands and programs of the wiki network without going to the places of the mobile terminals. This system realizes an open communication forum for not only people but also for machines .

- Abstract: In this study, a new questionnaire was developed to measure judgmental and behavioral aspects of information ethics by asking students to give responses to questions on unethical uses of ICT tools. Four hundred and thirteen undergraduate students answered the questionnaire. Relationships between measured information ethics and gender, consciousness of everyday ethics, proficiency in ICT tools, and the amount of education received on information ethics were examined and the following results were obtained. Female students were more ethical than male students in both judgmental and behavioral aspects of information ethics. The consciousness of everyday ethics had a strong impact on information ethics. Students who use ICT tools for practical purposes were more ethical than other students. Attending classes on information ethics at university enhanced both aspects of information ethics. Information ethics classes at high school had some effect, but less than that of classes at university. Finally, possible combination effects of everyday ethics, experience in ICT, and the amount of education on information ethics were examined, but no such combination effects were detected by the analysis of variance.

"A Technique to Assign an Appropriate Server to a Client, for a CDN Consists of Servers at the Global Internet and Hierarchical Private Networks",
Proc. of The 38th Annual International Computer Software & Applications Conference (COMPSAC2013/ADMNET WS) , pp.90-95, Västerås, Sweden, 21-25 Jul., 2014.
- Abstract: This paper discusses a technique to assign an appropriate server to a client for a content delivery network (CDN). We assume that the CDN consists of not only servers in the global Internet but also servers in hierarchical private networks. To use a common web browser as the client, this technique does not use broadcasting or multicasting. When a client is placed in a private network and a server of the CDN is also placed in the same private network, the client is connected to the server automatically by using this technique. When a client is placed in a private network and no CDN server is in the private network, or when the client is placed in the global network, the client is connected to a server in the global network automatically. This technique could improve the bandwidth between a server and a client when they are placed in the same private network because the TCP bandwidth heavily depends on latency. The CDN user does not need to know the location of a server. This technique does not use DNS because a CDN server in a private network is not always registered in the DNS.

- Abstract: The explosive growth of computer networking enormously increases security costs in universities. It is necessary to encourage the cooperation of students, faculty, and staff through education and training of information ethics, together with improving management and technologies, and as a consequence, to reduce university costs. We have been producing collections of video clips for information ethics education for university students to be used as teaching materials. New technology, service, custom, and so on accompany new security issues and ethics issues. So we have continued to produce video clips for these issues for ten years. We have produced the fourth edition of collections of video clips this year. This paper shows what kind of our clips and how our video clips changed in ten years.

"Portable Cloud Computing System - A System which Makes Everywhere an ICT Enhanced Classroom",
Proceedings of the 42th annual ACM SIGUCCS conference on User services, Salt Lake City, Utah, US, 4-7 Nov., 2014 .
- Abstract: A "Portable Cloud Computing System (Portable Cloud)" is discussed. This system is a portable system that can turn any room into an ICT-enhanced classroom or an ICT-enhanced meeting-room. The Portable Cloud is a carrying case, which contains Wi-Fi access points, a network switch, and a server cluster. The server cluster includes a NAPT (Network Address Port Translation) router, a DHCP server, a captive portal, and application servers. The Wi-Fi access points, the NAPT router, the captive portal and the DHCP server make the space where the Portable Cloud is located, Internet accessible. The application servers contains applications such like "Distributed Web Screen Share (DWSS)", "Slide Plus", and "OwnCloud". The DWSS is a web application which transmits a live screen image of a PC to a large number of Web clients. Slide Plus is an interactive live slide presentation tool for a large audience with Web clients. OwnCloud is open source software by owncloud.com. This software enables file sharing among students and teachers similar to that found in Dropbox. We are using the Portable Cloud for our seminar class, meetings of grass-root groups, and academic conferences. We can't imagine holding our seminar class without the Portable Cloud.

"A Malicious Bot Capturing System using a Beneficial Bot and Wiki",
Journal of Information Processing(JIP), vol.21, No.2, pp.237-245, 2013.
- abstract: Locating malicious bots in a large network is problematic because the internal firewalls and network address translation (NAT) routers of the network unintentionally contribute to hiding the bots' host address and malicious packets. However, eliminating firewalls and NAT routers merely for locating bots is generally not acceptable. In the present paper, we propose an easy to deploy, easy to manage network security control system for locating a malicious host behind internal secure gateways. The proposed network security control system consists of a remote security device and a command server. The remote security device is installed as a transparent link (implemented as an L2 switch), between the subnet and its gateway in order to detect a host that has been compromised by a malicious bot in a target subnet, while minimizing the impact of deployment. The security device is controlled remotely by ‘polling’ the command server in order to eliminate the NAT traversal problem and to be firewall friendly. Since the remote security device exists in transparent, remotely controlled, robust security gateways, we regard this device as a beneficial bot. We adopt a web server with wiki software as the command server in order to take advantage of its power of customization, ease of use, and ease of deployment of the server.
