"A plan for the establishment of a new university department with a specialized course in cybersecurity and IT infrastructure operation."
SIGUCCS '26: Proceedings of the 2026 ACM SIGUCCS Annual Conference, pp. 8 -- 12 (2026)
- Abstract:Maintaining cybersecurity is a major challenge everywhere, including for families, companies, and universities in Japan. However, the number of cybersecurity specialists is too small to address the current problem effectively. In 2022, the Japanese government confirmed the establishment of a fund to train experts in digital transformation and carbon neutrality. In 2023, it launched the project for promoting higher education enhancement. Fukuyama City University is a small public university. To address the changes in the global industrial structure and meet the demands of manufacturing companies and high school students in Fukuyama City, the university applied for the project, and its application was approved. To address the changes in the global industrial structure, Fukuyama City University plans to establish a new department with a specialized course in cybersecurity and IT infrastructure operation.

"Development of a Living Campus Map using a Wiki Software and Bot Computing,"
SIGUCCS '25: Proceedings of the 2025 ACM SIGUCCS Annual Conference, Pages 53 - 57, https://doi.org/10.1145/3675229.3712566
- Abstract:Some students on our campus are not satisfied with the current campus map because it does not contain information that meets their needs. If the campus map can be easily edited and updated by users who are students, faculty, and staff, like a page of a wiki, it can become a map that contains information meeting their needs. We are trying to create a "living campus map" using an existing wiki, combining it with Wiki IoT/Bot Computing, which is an IoT system. The living campus map will be a map that contains information that represents users’ needs and reflects the latest status of the campus.

「IoTのためのWiki Bot in Python」

"Experience of Classes with the Portable Cloud Computing System and a Raspberry Pi Cluster,"
SIGUCCS '24: Proceedings of the 2024 ACM SIGUCCS Annual Conference, March 2024Pages 14–19, https://doi.org/10.1145/3599732.3641317
- Abstract:Experience of classes with the portable cloud computing system and a Raspberry Pi cluster is discussed. A "Portable Cloud Computing System (Portable Cloud)" is a portable system that can turn any room into an ICT-enhanced classroom or an ICT-enhanced meeting-room. The portable cloud is a portable rack, which contains Wi-Fi access points, a network switch, and a server cluster. The server cluster includes a NAPT (Network Address Port Translation) router, a DHCP server, a captive portal. The Wi-Fi access points, the NAPT router, the captive portal and the DHCP server make the space where the Portable Cloud is located, Internet accessible. The server cluster also contains the "Distributed Web Screen Share (DWSS)." DWSS can share teacher’s PC’s screen with students BYOD. We added a Raspberry Pi cluster to the server cluster of the portable cloud for exercises of classes this time. The portable cloud computing system made us realize to have the technical English class, the computer architecture class with exercises and the parallel and distributed computing class, with minimal physical contact between students.

- Abstract:In Fukuyama University, we have an educational affairs system and a course management system for education for more correct work and increasing efficiency of educational affairs and education. However, we do not have a common computer system for our office work except Office 365. Most procedures for office work are currently processed using pieces of paper and seals, which are time consuming and annoying. There is a tendency to promote digital transformation in Japan in the 2020s, but it is not easy to transform previous paperwork to effective digitalized work in a small university. This paper discusses the experience of digital transformation in Fukuyama University. The president of our university asked us to digitalize one of our procedures. We made a prototype system for the work using Office 365, discussing with officers who are in charge of the work. The system is going to be deployed shortly. Our educational affairs system is not perfect. There are many things to deal with by the faculties’ hands. In order to reduce such chores, we showed some examples of Python programs using Selenium, which is a tool for automating the handling of a web page, to a group of the faculty.

- abstract: An attempt of automatic and flexible operation of equipment in a campus is discussed. This operation was realized by Bot Computing, a framework for Internet of Things (IoT). Bot computing enables remote control of edge devices which are protected by NAT routers, from the Internet. Any electric appliance can be controlled using the combination of Bot Computing and an edge device with an Infra-Red (IR) transmitter, if the appliance has the IR remote controlled function. We can program the power-on time and the power-off time of any electric appliance, by writing a script on a Wiki page on the Internet, using the Bot Computing. We can change the program anytime, anywhere. We also can force turn on or force turn off the appliance anytime, anywhere. We have used this to realize a large digital signage system by using windows of a building at our university. The signage system displays university information at night. We could have planned operation of video projectors in a building. We could also have forced turn on video projectors and changed the plan of operation from the outside of the building, which is locked at night.

- abstract: Preventing COVID-19 infection in a university using a cloud computing service, Microsoft Office 365, is discussed. In order to start in-person classes safely, our university decided to survey health status of every student and staff member, every day. The student or the staff member is asked to not to come to campus if there is a symptom of COVID-19 infection or if they did not fill out the survey sheet daily for two weeks. If there are no symptom of COVID-19 for two weeks, there is almost no possibility of infection of COVID-19 or the person had recovered from the infection. The survey data is collected and analyzed with Office 365 to minimize time and effort. In addition to the survey, we made the class seat assignment sheets using our academic affair system and Excel. The assigned seats were used in order to coduct contuct tracing if a student tested positive with COVID-19.
